What you need to RICA Vodacom sim card

Each country has its own sim card registration requirements. Below is the list of necessary documents to RICA Vodacom sim cards in South Africa.

  1. Sim card serial number
  2. Identification in the form of any one of these:some text
    1. South African ID (Green book or card) 
    2. Passport (local or foreign) 
    3. Refugee document 

Important note: Foreign passports and Refugee documents should be valid

    3. Rates and/or electricity account (not older than 3 months)
    4. Phone account (not older than 3 months)
    5. TV licence (current)

    8. New vehicle licence agreement
    9. For informal settlement: Please provide the address of the nearest school or community centre/church/retail store/where you normally receive your post. An affidavit is also acceptable if the above is not available.

Where to RICA Vodacom sim card?

Go to your local Flash spaza shop with all the necessary documents to RICA Vodacom sim card and the Flash merchant will help you register in less than 15 minutes. 

Ideally, have these documents on hand when you buy your Vodacom sim card because networks and Flash merchants are not legally permitted to sell pre-RICA registered sim cards.

How to RICA a Vodacom sim card

  • Shop your sim card at your local Flash spaza (or bring one that hasn’t been RICA’d)
  • Hand your Flash merchant all the required documents
  • They will use the documents to register your sim card using their Flash device

Once your Flash merchant has registered your sim card, it will take about 24-hours to be active on the Vodacom network.

To check if your Vodacom sim card has been registered, SMS the word ‘RICA’ to 31050 or call 082 111. If it doesn’t appear as registered, please repeat the above process to activate Vodacom sim card.
