Many people say that smiling is the best way to face your problems, conquer your fears and work through your pain. But, what would it be like if YOUR SMILE was the source of your problems, the reason for your fears and the cause of your pain?

This is the sad reality for children born with cleft lips and palates.

However, OPERATION SMILE is changing lives one surgery at a time, and Flash is honoured to be a part of their journey. On a recent CSI mission to Witbank, a few of us were invited to observe the miracle of giving patients a new smile and lease on life.

Getting to know the patients and observing their surgeries was the biggest highlight from the trip. Nothing can prepare you for the feeling you get when you know a patient’s life will be changed forever after waking up from surgery. Without Operation Smile, many of these patients would never be able to afford cleft and lip palate surgeries. In fact, many never knew their condition was curable before hearing about it through the organisation.
